Specialized Behavioral
and Emotional Care Programs

AgeSong at Lakeside Park's Specialized Behavioral and Emotional Care Program is based on a non-pathological view of creating therapeutic environments. Our process-oriented, humanistic approach to care and services allows residents to be who they are. Our staff tries to approach human interactions and behaviors with curiosity and with hope for a deeper understanding about their meaning. In turn, this understanding helps us learn how to best help and care for each resident. Our staff, clinicians, and interns are committed to creating compassionate, non-judgmental, and supportive environments for residents with high acuity needs.

Forgetfulness (Dementia)

The Forgetfulness (Dementia) Program supports an interdisciplinary approach to caring for people with different types of dementia. Pacific Institute mental health interns work with AgeSong care partners to "see" and relate to the person rather than just to treat symptoms like forgetfulness and confusion. Our program not only addresses the behavioral challenges, but also validates their responses to this new phase of their lives.

Hospice, Respite and Transitional Care

Our Hospice Care program allows us to coordinate care with MediCare-certified hospice providers to support residents who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness. Our hospice programs are inspired by the practices of Zen Hospice and include residents' faith traditions, grief and loss support, and coordination of needs through the Medicare hospice agency of the residents' choice.

Our Respite and Transitional Care program allows residents to live with us for a week or two while family members take a break from 24-hour caregiving or when a resident needs some short term support after an illness or injury.

Our Respite and Transitional Care program provides assessment and support for short-term needs, varied activities and recreational outings, assistance with personal care, medication assistance, and care coordination for long-term planning.

Spiritual Care

We try to be aware of, and provide space for, our residents' spiritual needs. Our Spiritual Care Program provides support to residents, family members, friends, and staff. We work with community members who are ordained or have positions as spiritual care providers — and our program is an interfaith program, where all forms of religion and spirituality are welcomed.

Care and Assisted Living

Our Care and Assisted Living program is rooted in a holistic and comprehensive approach to care that supports different activities of daily living at different levels of needs; from cueing and general assistance to more involved care needs such as incontinence and two-person transfers. Our approach is invaluable in furnishing our residents with well-rounded care and nurturing that goes above and beyond the standard aspects of the tasks of care giving, and we develop Individual Service Plans that treat every resident as the unique individual they are.

Expressive Arts and Art Therapy

For many elders, this stage of life provides the opportunity to enjoy being creative. From painting and writing, to performing arts, music and poetry sessions, we humans all share an innate desire to express ourselves. AgeSong weaves psychotherapy, emotional care, and life coaching into these experiences
